[Link] | Had a fabulous Fourth weekend at TJ's parent's house. Started off on Friday afternoon with beer brewing, two boat rides (each followed by rain, darnit), and some wonderful BBQ chicken for supper and games and good conversation. Tented overnight, had cranberry scones and cheesy eggies for breakfast, more great conversation, and then departed for a party at TJ's friend's house. At least we saw some sun!
Also, during one thunderstorm, a resin deck chair blew off the boat and started floating downstream on the lake. I was brave enough to dare the cold water and rescued the chair by the neighbor's inlet before it was lost forever.

[Link] | That it has been wet is no news.
We tried to go camping last week, since the forecast for the previous three days has said rain and it was gorgeous instead. So off we went, but alas, it rained or misted constantly. When Critter's tent became a flood just before bedtime on the second night, we gave in and went home. Collected the tents the next day (campsite was only 19 miles from home) since we didn't feel like breaking down in the dark.
Saw Year One at the theatre... was kinda cute and funny. Can't wait for Harry Potter.
Nothing much else has been going on. Too wet to do much.
Going off to TJ's parents house for a couple of days for the 4th. Most of us kids are staying overnight (yes, another wet tent, but oh well). I always enjoy time spent there. We'll be brewing batches of beer as Dad J has created a fabulous set-up in his cellar.

Critter's been having a fairly good time here. We went swimming on the ONE good day we've had in two weeks, and outside of that it's just been reading, computer time, and board games. His plane was delayed horribly... he was supposed to arrive in Portland at 11:10 AM and didn't get in until 10:20 PM!
TJ and I are well in ourselves and in our marriage. We spent yesterday at the LakeHouse with his family celebrating Father's Day with fabulous steaks, freshly made popovers, and other yummy things. I love his family. Then we played Apples To Apples, and it was a laugh-riot as always.
The garden is doing ok, though it would be better for more sun. The beans are growing, the peas are mostly ok other than those the gnawing bugs have topped, the radishes and gourds and watermelons are coming right along, bur the downstairs guy who does the lawns drunkenly drove over my sunflowers dammit.
Not a whole lot to tell beyond this. Life's pretty simple 'round here... and that's ok.

[Link] | Critter's plane is delayed in Harrisburg PA for mechanical issues. Then when he finally boards, there's a stop and plane change in Philly. Gak. Nothing like a 15-yr-old on his own in large airports.

A busy day So much for a bird in the hand... apparently I have one in the mouth. Thrush. A byproduct of my antibiotics, so says my dentist. Bleh. More medications to be on.
Then this morning, following the dentist, I treated myself to a Scalp Treatment at the local hair dresser school... this involves washing the hair, greasing the scalp with "cholesterol" goop, baking for a while under the dryer, then a 20-minute head and neck massage...... all this for $4!! :o)
THEN I went to get my blood drawn.
Next I have to see my doctor to get the meds for the thrush.
THEN to the pharmacy to pick up my 'scrips.
THEN to the gym!
I have no idea what may happen next.
And tomorrow I get a Critter!! :o)

A Critter! A Critter! In two days I get my Critter for the summer. We wanted to go camping right away, but there's rain for the next four days, darnit. Ah well, there's always next week.
Sadly, we have been TOLD by my ex-husband that the boy must have a haircut before summer's end (he's been growing it out but not caring for it well enough). So before that, we're gonna dye it midnight blue! :o)
Gonna teach him more about Paganism and cooking this summer -- not that the two subjects are intertwined, just that these are two areas of interest. Might take him for archery, too. Got the Summer Parks Pass, so swimming and hiking are on the docket as well.
Grandma Jones has signed him up for camp again this year, so that'll be fun. It's only a 3-day trip, but it's quite enjoyable. He gets to learn some outdoor skills, and since he's old enough this year for the leadership program, he might be able to go on another trip as a "leader" for some of the younger kids.
Now let's hope his attitude and responsibility levels are good this summer... he's been a right holy terror to Mal.

[Link] | Lesson learned...
It's 4:45AM. I have not yet slept. This is AFTER having taken three sleeping tablets (one usually does the trick within half an hour). I'm dizzy and I WANT to sleep, but it ain't happening.
So...
No more coffee or caffeine for me after 4PM.
Ack ptooey.

[Link] | Had my root canal today... only to discover that the tooth beside it needs one, too. ARGH! There's another $600 I don't have. How they think that someone who makes a little over $800 a MONTH can afford $600 in dentist bills is beyond me (that's the sliding scale!!).
So I ate lunch after getting the surgery done, and apparently chomped and gnawed the holy hell out of my tongue and the corner of my mouth. They were still numb from novocaine so I didn't know at the time.
And then my ex-husband calls to bitch again about how Critter's not helping out around the house and not doing his schoolwork. I honestly am at my wits end with this. I don't know what to do.
Depressed this evening. Very depressed.

[Link] | Dropped in on the in-laws today as TJ had a doctor's appointment in town. They invited us to stay for supper, and treated us to fabulous pork chops and steaks grilled outside with a really yummy BBQ sauce, salad, fresh made caraway-seed rolls made with beer, cheese spread made with beer, and coffee ice cream made with beer and grated chocolate. Notice a theme? They had all beer-related food on Sunday as a test, including beer chili and a few other things. My sister-in-laws and FIL have been brewing beer, and I hope to brew a mead there soon. Dad's got a whole brewing setup in the cellar, and it's become a family project.
Rites of Spring was good this year, though I was homesick for TJ and kinda lonely most of the week, not to mention touch-deprived. The weather was wonderful, though, the best in years. Billy Bardo auctioned off his antlered top hat and got $2,222 for it!!! (The money went to EarthSpirit to fund their trips to the Parliament of World Religions and other things). I'd love to win a big lottery and be able to do an auction like that someday.
For Village Builders, I was in Sweet Maple Grove. We did the Inspiration Shrine, Lake Shrine(s), put up the Red Tent (women's mysteries), and set up the boathouse for workshop space. I added the clay people figures I'd made years ago to the Inspiration Shrine in places, and Karina said it made her cry, it was so good. I napped a while in the Red Tent one night, and it was good but strange... the wind was blowing gales wildly, and a few of the statues fell over as the tent walls blew inward. The strange bit was my being in the tent at all... I have weird issues with the whole women's thing (especially the Vulva Dialogues bit... freaks me right out, and I don't know why).
I brought a couple of loaves of my herbed bread and one of the Gahhhhrlic to share with my Grove, and they were very well received. May have to do that again next year.
My totem workshop was small-ish this year (10 people... I typically get 15-20 or so) but went quite well. I only attended a few workshops, missing two and oversleeping through another (Andras's "Witch as Shaman" workshop, damnit!!). I had fully intended to do Leather & Lace but was too sleepy (starts at midnight), and only got to the Fire Circle on Sunday night... was just too tired to make it much past 10, which is when it starts, not when it really gets going. I had a fair amount of energy this year, but apparently not enough stamina.
Attended Jane and Andrew's shamanic journeying workshop, and found Eagle... she spread her left wing and kinda showed me that I need to work more on my weight loss than the financial end to earn my Eagle feather. I thought that odd, but I'll take it.
I lost 5 pounds this week, walking all up and down the mountain, so that makes me a happy Muppet.
Robyn did a Shamanic healing on me which she needed for her class/training she's taking. I decided to focus on my weight loss, and strangely enough the chakra that was most clouded was my Crown. Apparently I need to tie in my spirituality somehow.
Saw three herons, tons of vultures, a few hawks, snakes, and dragonflies this year at Rites.
My favorite mead vendor (Wren) wasn't there this year, so I couldn't buy any mead to bring home to share with the in-laws. Wicked bummer. They'll just have to have my own brewing. I have plans for a new and improved Velvet Venus (which has never worked out, for reasons unknown), Manilla Mead (maple and vanilla) and of course my own special Enchanted Red (clove, allspice, and cinnamon).
Billy Bardo invited me to the new York Faerie Fest in June... said they'd comp me in and maybe get me some money for playing harp there. Shall see if there's the money to go. I think it would be fun.
Critter had a great time at Rites, and also got a Festival Girlfriend. He's all "gloomy", says he, since he won't be able to see her again until Lammas. He wants Rites to go on for a good month... don't we all? My rules for him were, "You must eat; you must sleep; I'll see you Monday." :o) I got several compliments from other adults about him, and that made me quite happy. He handled the bus transfers in NYC perfectly (I was concerned, as he's never traveled by bus before).
I bought Critter as my wench for Feast, though I shouldn't have spent as much as I did... but I didn't want some strange guy getting my son. :o) I actually didn't have him wench for me at the Feast, but I said I'd take it out of him this summer, moo-hahahaaaaa.
I get my root canal finished tomorrow. Oh yay. :oP
This is all I can think of that's relevant at this point... might have to edit later as my brain unwinds and brings back more memories of Rites.

[Link] | Bless Nachtegal's big heart, I'm able to borrow her car for Rites, thus eliminating all this rental stupidity. In fact, I just finished packing the car, so I am set to go come 8AM Monday. And Critter CAN go this year, and it's the bus for him this time.
TJ and I raked and bagged 50 bags of leaves for Dad. He's 80 and really shouldn't be doing it. He asked if we'd do it again in the fall (he missed it last fall, which was why we were doing it in the spring). TJ doesn't really want to, but I do. I'd rather help dad than have him pay someone else.
It must be said, I simply adore my in-law family!!
Not a whole lot going on. Just wandering through the days, reading and playing on the computer a lot, going to the gym, and working in the gardens.
Looks like it's about to rain...

[Link] | What am I doing up so early...? Woke at 430 to piddle and was, for no good reason, WIDE awake. Ah well. The It's-430-in-the-morning-shut-UP bird was singing, as well as some mourning doves and a sweet sweet chickadee.
Rites packing is nearly finished. Getting my snacks together for the 5-hour drive. This year I want to do a few things I normally would not do or go to, things in which I have no real interest, but that might prove interesting after all.
O Purple One, will you braid my hair into pigtails on Monday? :o) *smooch*
